NWJBF Schedule 2019v5 11×17
Chaperones – I could use a driver or two for equipment so. I could also use a couple of chaperones to hang out and be on hand for the day. For chaperones, I will have free admission tickets for you. Please let me know if you plan on riding the bus or driving (we will be tight on space in the bus).
Rhythm Section – Read the note to you below from the festival director regarding what is being provided and what is not being provided for equipment.
From the Festival Director: This year’s guest artist is pianist Peter Martin. Peter has toured and recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Chris Botti, Betty Carter, Christian McBride and Josh Redman. I invited him not only because of his incredible musicianship, but because he is the CEO of Open Studio, an online resource for jazz education. He runs the “You’ll Hear It” podcast/YouTube channel and is doing amazing things for jazz education! Prior to your visit to our festival, please share these resources with your students. I have purchased an all-access pass for my department and students and have it available on computers in the department for them to study under some of the leading artists on the scene right now!
You will notice that in addition to performances by over 70 jazz ensembles that day, your students (and you!) can have exposure to 50-minute masterclasses with local jazz giants in a hands-on environment. Your students are invited to bring their instruments where appropriate (probably not for the drum set one for obvious reasons….). Space is limited, so it will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. There are suggestions in the Director’s Packet on how to help your students schedule their day so they get a little bit of everything.
VPA Concert Instrumentalists needed! Come see Mr. Stai if you are interested.

This correspondence is directed toward students & parents entering either SMS or LRMS.
Our SMS/LRMS Beginning Band Instrument Night is on Monday 4/15/19 at Laurel Ridge Middle School. You are welcome any time between 6:30 & 8:00 to have your student try out any of these instruments. This event is for all fifth graders in Sherwood, regardless of which MS they’ll attend.
Mr. Dyer (SMS), Mr. Angeloni (LRMS) & Mr. Stai (SHS Band) will be there to answer questions. You and your student will be assisted by one of twenty-six amazing Sherwood High School band members.
MS Band Teachers: Mr. Dyer & Mr. Angeloni
The forecasting sheet asks for you to select your band instrument when you sign up for band. Our instrument night is intended to help you with that process of choosing.
We hope to see you and your child at instrument night as well as next year in middle school band!! Remember it’s Monday night 4/15 from 6:30 to 8:00 at LRMS.
Info about how to get instruments, cost, etc. can be found at Instrument night, and is included in the attached Instrument Night FAQ. If cost would keep your child from band, please contact a band teacher or school counselor. We can help.
Please let Mr. Dyer or Mr. Angeloni know if you have any questions.
