The Bowmen are on their way to owning a band trailer! A private donor/ community member has graciously pledged to match funds raised towards the purchase of a trailer. The band already raised $375 in 24 hours! Our goal is to raise at least $3500 by winter break so a trailer can be purchased and customized to meet our needs for the winter percussion season.
Anyone who donates $500 or more will have their name or business displayed on the trailer and advertised on our website. Take advantage of this opportunity to support our band!
The media page has new pictures from our marching season.
If you are a jazzer, you need to watch this movie. It is available on Netflix instant. Check out the trailer….
Now that Marching Band has come to an end, I would like to encourage more students to take part in a great opportunity here at Sherwood by participating in Jazz II! Supported by our Band Boosters, this band is coached by Mr. Jack Quinby. We are very fortunate to have someone as skilled and knowledgeable to be working with our students. The band is also a great way to fine tune your jazz skills to prepare for Jazz I. Most of our Jazz I students will be chosen from the members of Jazz II.
At this time, we are low on participation and need to increase our numbers to continue this group. It is open to all who would like to participate and is not limited to just jazz instruments.
The band meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings in the PAC from 7-7:50am. Hope to see you there this Thursday.
If you are a new member of Jazz I, Wind Ensemble or Percussionist who will be in Wind Ensemble you will need to purchase a tuxedo. The band is using the services of Mr. Formal this year. Mr. Formal will be in the band room for your convenience for fitting tomorrow (Wednesday) from 2:40-3:30. If you can not make this time, fitting and ordering can be done at Mr. Formal at Washington Square.
SHERWOOD MARCHING BOWMEN PLACE SECOND IN AA DIVISION
This past Saturday, our Bowmen Marching Band competed in the NWAPA Championships held at Hillsboro Stadium. Twenty-four bands representing Northwest schools gathered to bring their show the field one last time in hopes to be reigned the best in the Northwest.
The Marching Bowmen had an amazing start to the season and were able to surpass the goals set for the year in the first season performance and quickly set a new benchmark. They then set their sites to be best in the division (AA) and came very close to reaching this goal. They placed 2nd in the AA Division, 1st in ensemble music and were .05 points from capturing the High Music Award.
Equally impressive are the supportive parents and sponsors who help provide this opportunity to their students. The total hours spent building props, moving equipment, raising funds and cooking meals are countless. It is through the sacrifices of these people that marching band is possible! Thank you to anyone who helped in any capacity this year!
And finally, thank you to the school board and administrators. Competitive marching has a unique power to motivate students, ignite physical and mental growth, and bring together a caring and sensitive community of teachers, parents and students. We appreciate your support and hope you will continue to recognize music as an essential element of a young person’s development, from Kindergarten to their senior year.
No rehearsal tonight!
The Sherwood VPA presents “Into the Woods” Jr. performances this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm. Some of our Sherwood High Students are participating in this performance so attend a showing!

The Sherwood Marching Bowmen, parent volunteers and staff made this weekend’s Festival of Bands performances the best in the history of Sherwood! I personally was impressed with the manner in which all of our students represented our school and community. It was noticed and noted by many that our band performs with maturity and pride on and off the field. Way to go Bowmen!
