You will find the jazz band audition materials and information under the Jazz Band page. Students will have at least one week to prepare the material. The materials are very challenging. Please do not be intimidated by the difficulty and do your best. The tempo marking for GOT RHYTHM should be at least QTR note = 158. I will be more than willing to help any student during early lunch or after school.
Only students who want to be in Jazz I need to audition. All other students will automatically be in Jazz II.
Auditions for Jazz Band I are as follows:
MONDAY SEPT. 20th 7AM- SAXOPHONES
TUESDAY SEPT. 21st 7AM- TRUMPETS
WEDNESDAY SEPT. 22nd 7AM- TROMBONES
WEDNESDAY SEPT. 22nd DURING CLASS- DRUMS
Wow! What a great day with our new Freshmen. It was so much fun to meet so many new band members (28 total)!
Before tomorrow, please go to the pep band music site and print your music for each song. There is a new Star Spangled Banner which we will use instead of the one handed out at camp.
Please bring your instruments and a combination lock to class tomorrow!
It’s that time of year again! Our third annual Band Day fundraiser for the Sherwood Bowmen Band is Saturday September 18th. Students (band members and colorguard) will team up in groups of four, and along with a parent driver will go door to door asking for donations while dressed in uniform. There will be an announcement regarding the event the Friday night before at the football game, where the students will also be performing. Last year we raised almost $5,000 for our band!
The kids and drivers will need to report to the band room at 9am. Please wear comfortable shoes!
Breakfast will be provided.
Students will then get into their uniforms.
Students and drivers will get into assigned groups and wait for instructions on what area of Sherwood they will be covering.
Scripts, rules and instructions will be provided.
Teams will go door to door from 10AM until 1PM.
Groups will return to the school to drop off funds and change their uniforms by 1:15.
Please see the sign up sheet in the band room. ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PARTICIPATE! This is an easy way to add credit to your student account. Please let Mr. Petrik know if you are unable to attend this event. If you don’t participate, you cannot earn credit. Please remember 50% of funds collected are split between the student accounts and the band general fund. If you have any questions regarding student accounts, please contact Malia Jasmer (Treasurer) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This week’s 6-9pm rehearsal will be moved to Thursday from 3:15-5:30pm. We will meet on the baseball field.
REMINDER: The only other change from the regular Wednesday night schedule is TUESDAY Oct. 5th 6-9 pm. Be sure to check the calendar!
Our school received sad news about an untimely death of one of our recent Graduates. Out of respect for Theresa Stanley’s funeral services, we will re-schedule our Wednesday rehearsal for Thursday. We are not sure of the time, so please keep Thursday free.
The SHS Band Handbook is now available on the “forms” page. Familiarize yourself with all the information provided and return the signature form. In efforts to save paper, I will have a limited number of hard copies available.
Under the student section, you will find the instructions and the audition materials for 2010 All State. All State band is a high honor for Oregon music students. Each year, students audition to be a participant in 1 of two instrumental groups. For those chosen, it is an amazing opportunity to meet students from around the state and to work with internationally known Conductors.
This is also an All-Northwest year as well. All-Northwest is much like All-State, but expands its participant base to Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Idaho. The All-State materials can be used for All-Northwest, but your auditions need to be at the fastest specified tempo marking. I will be working with all of you to ensure you are prepared.
START PRACTICING TODAY!!!
All Wind Ensemble members will audition and it is optional for Concert Band members.
The University of Oregon is having a pick up game VS New Mexico at Autzen on September 4th and they need high school student, current band members, and alumni to come and play a simple field show as well as in the stands.
