Jazz II begins on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:30am in the PAC. We’re very fortunate to have Nathanael Ankeny, professor of saxophone and jazz studies at George Fox University, as our Jazz II Director.
Jazz II will meet 2-3 times per week from 7:30am-8:20am. Regular rehearsals will be Tuesdays & Thursdays, with section rehearsals happening every other Wednesday (starting November 30).
We are not holding auditions for this ensemble. Jazz II is open for currently enrolled band students who are interested in learning or developing their skills on a jazz instrument. We are looking for students who have a good attitude, willing to practice, and show up on time.
Jazz II will perform about 3-4 times during the school year. Our first performance will be at the West Salem Jazz Festival on Saturday, February 11. Other performances will be Swingin’ the Green (Saturday, March 18), and Stella by Starlight (Tuesday, May 30). There also may be 1-2 other performances TBD.
