Wednesday, April 3 Concert Capacity Note

One note regarding Wednesday evening’s capacity… We can hold a little over 250 people in seats in our Auditorium. With that in mind, feel free to come and go as is comfortable Wednesday evening. We should have a few seats leftover, but wanted to put that info out there now. Concert Band is setting up the stage during class and Wind Ensemble will strike the stage at the end of the concert, so Bowmen and Concert Band members are excused once they’re done performing (although all band members are encouraged to listen to other groups once they’re done if they’d like to; capacity has me using some conflicting words here).

At our end of the year finale concert on Monday, May 19th we will be in Bauman Auditorium (George Fox) again (1000 seats) so we will be comfy!

Below is the original message that went out regarding the April 3rd concert with ALL the correct corresponding dates 🙂

Spring Concert Program 2019

All Concert Ensembles (Bowmen, Concert, Wind Ensemble) are performing Wednesday, April 3 here at SHS. Call time in concert attire is 6:30pm. The concert starts at 7:00pm and is open for everyone.

All are invited to come support the bands as they continue to refine & debut music in this exciting home concert.

Dead Band Families,

As mentioned at the concert last night, we have an urgent need for Volunteers THIS SATURDAY, March 23. Sherwood is hosting a WGI Percussion Competition at Liberty High school. We desperately need volunteers from middle school or high school to help us run the competition! Please follow this link to sign up for a shift or two:

http://signup.com/go/drgNVQL

THANK YOU for giving your time!

Aside from your much needed volunteer hours there are easier ways to help the Sherwood Band Boosters achieve our goals for our students!

Here are some ways you can help:

  1. ID Mentor – Protect your family from identity theft and support the band at the same time! Sign up your family for an ID mentor account using this link to get a generous 20% discount:https://www.myidcare.com/sherwoodband
  2. Ask your employer if they have a charity match program.  Many employers will not only match employee donations, some even double them!  Also some employers give credit or donations for volunteer hours spent!
  3. The Sherwood Band Boosters are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization and we are registered with Benevity and Nike Inc.’s Give Your Best platform.  Others include Intel, PGE and Kaiser.  More coming soon!
  4. Restaurant nights:  throughout the year, you will receive emails and flyers letting you know about local restaurants that have agreed to share a portion of a day’s proceeds with the boosters.  Please come out and join other band families to enjoy these events! Past sponsors include McMenamins, Chipotle, Subway, Panda Express and Spaghetti Factory.
  5. Link us to your Amazon Smile account!  Just by doing your normal Amazon shopping, you can give back to the Boosters.  When you do your shopping, start at www.smile.amazon.com and link your account to the Sherwood High School Band Booster Club
  6. Fred Meyer Community Rewards – visit https://www.fredmeyer.com. Once logged into your Fred Meyer account search for Sherwood High School Band Booster Club either by name or JF541 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address and a rewards card.
  7. Green Bag Recycling: you can redeem your own bottles and cans and have the proceeds go to the Boosters without waiting for us to have a big can drive!  Sign up for an account at an Oregon Bottle Drop center and you can designate the Sherwood Band Boosters to receive the funds from your collection.
  8. Planet Fundraiser: Download the app on the iTunes or Google Play store to support our campaign with your everyday purchases! Or you can click this link on your PC:  https://link-to.app/VZNwak   Many online vendors participate.  We will be working with local businesses to add to the qualifying purchases, so stay tuned for that!

We have something really special going on here in our band programs in Sherwood.  Thank you for your continued support.  The band kids reap the benefits of all the opportunities presented.

DISTRICT BAND FESTIVAL – TUESDAY, MARCH 19, 7:00PM IN SHS GYM

Dear Parents & Students, We have our district wide band festival tonight Tuesday, March 19 at 7pm in the SHS Main Gym. This event involves every band student in the Sherwood School District between grades 6-12. You will hear all concert bands from the middle schools and high school. From SHS, we will be featuring our Bowmen Band, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble.

Every SHS band member needs to sign up for one  concert duty that evening. Students can either sign up for setup from 3:00-3:30pm OR for cleanup as soon as the concert is over. Cleanup duties involve taking all equipment back to correct spaces (HS & MS), Chairs, Stands, and putting away the drum platform. Signup sheets are located inside the band room on the cabinet.

Looking forward to an exciting evening of music!

Winter Showcase this Saturday!

This Saturday, March 16, is the 7th annual Sherwood Winter Showcase. Wind Ensemble Expectations
Wind Ensemble Auditions Info

Decisions will be based on spot availability, ability, attitude, and dependability.

A traditional symphony band (like what we have with concert band) will have a sea of instruments. These ensembles can get quite large – up to 60-80 musicians per band. On the other hand, our Wind Ensemble is built to be a little bit slimmer and more stealthy (Our design is based on 1952 Eastman School of Music Wind Ensemble under the direction of Frederick Fennell, who was the founder of the modern wind ensemble).
