From Swingin’ to Showcase!

Sherwood Band and Guard Parents,
Another Swingin’ with Spaghetti is in the books and it is already time to start planning for Sherwood Band Booster’s next big event!
Sherwood Winter Showcase is right around the corner, on March 17th!  43 Percussion, Colorguard, and Winds units from around the NW will be competing at Sherwood High School.  Think Marching Band competition held inside.  It is not only a fun and exciting day, but also a major fundraiser for the Sherwood Band Programs.
We will be having a short planning meeting on Thursday, February 1st at 7:00 pm.  This will our 5th year hosting the event.  Plans are in place, we just need volunteers to oversee them!  We need:
Announcer “Judges are you ready? Sherwood, you may now begin your performance…”    This job is very important!  We could not have a competition without an announcer!
Parking Lot Co-coordinator  Work with Parking Lot coordinator the day of the event.  Direct units to their “camps”, help direct the flow of traffic, monitor the parking lots.
Concessions – Contract with local pizza, restaurant and/or food trucks to provide hot food. Shop for general concessions, manage concessions the day of the event.
Director Liaison  – Greet Directors at Check In, stamp performers, answer questions
Volunteer Coordinator Contact Key Club, NHS, Band Students, parents and the community for volunteers.  Day of event – manage volunteer schedule, check volunteers in and out,  do short training on door etiquette during performances.
Director Hospitality  Set up director’s hospitality room with coffee, water, minimal snacks.  These can be secured by donation.
Signs –  Most signs are pre-printed, but need to be hung.  Participating Unit Signs need to be created. Direction arrows need to be taped to the floor to help spectators find their way to the gym.
As you can see there are many moving parts to hosting a show!  If you are interested in helping please come to our initial meeting, Thursday February 1st , 7pm at 24799 SW Oberst Rd.   Questions?  Please don’t hesitate to contact me!
Sincerely,
Leslie Kolb
